I Don't Want To See Any Student Who Is Preparing For Bank Exams Cannot Answer This Question "What do you know about the Indian Banking History and What is the oldest bank ?"

After reading my post you will be able to answer for sure with confidence !!!!!!!!!! It's true......

--->The first bank in India is "The Bank of Hindustan" established in 1770 by Britishers .

--->Followed by presidency banks : The bank of calcutta(1806),The bank of calcutta(1809),The bank of bombay(1840),The bank of madras(1843).

--->Foreign banks which are invited by the Britishers to India are : Escapita De Paris(in 1860,a France bank), HSBC(1869)

--->The first bank started by Indians with the joint stock company of Britishers in 1839,but failed in 1848(Union Bank of India)

--->The Allahabad Bank is established in 1863 and failed in 1913 due to lack of Budget. Moreover ,it is the first oldest bank.

--->The Bank of Upper India is the oldest bank under joint stock company with British.

--->The first entirely Indian joint stock company is "The Oudha Commercial Bank" established in 1881. But it ended in 1958.

--->Punjab National Bank is established in 1894 and it the largest bank at present in India.

--->In 1905,Vandemataram Movement(National Movement) started in India and it influenced and effected Indian Banking system.

---> between 1906 and 1913,the banks which are established are Central bank of India,Bank of Baroda,Bank of India,Canara Bank,Indian Bank,Bank of Mysore.

--->Imperial Bank of India started in 1921 and at that time it is the central bank and monetory authority in India. It is now presently calling as the "State Bank of India."

--->Royal Commission (Hilton Yong commission) is appointed in 1935 to establish another central bank for India. Thus the Reserve Bank of India is formed in 1935.

--->The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) became the monitoring authority and it continues till now.

--->The Reserve Bank of India Act,1934 is the first act .

--->RBI was nationalised in 1949. Thus it became the Govt bank .

--->The Imperial bank of India changed its name to State Bank of India in 1955 and it is nationalised then.

--->The first governor of the RBI is "Os Bourne Smith"

--->Present governor : 04-02-2014 : "Shri Raghuram Govind Rajan(23rd Governor of RBI)"

--->The first governor of RBI for independent India is "CD Deshmukh"

    1. Supriya jain ........... Answer depends upon question......If they ask "Which is the largest nationalised bank in India ?" Then answer is without hesitation "Punjab national bank ji !!!!! ".......But if they ask "Which is the largest bank in India ?" Then answer is "state bank of India"............Absolutely the oldest bank in the public sector banks which is working presently in India is The Allahabad bank........and your final question"All presidency banks combined to form The Imperial bank of India".....................Are you satisfied with my answer Supriya Jain ?
