1)‘Pakudu Rallu’ to be translated into Italian language

Jnanpith Award winning novel ‘Pakudu Rallu’ penned by eminent story writer and novelist Ravuri Bharadwaja, will be translated into Italian language.
The book explained the ‘unhappy lives of some South Indian actresses’ of the yesteryears had won the laurels of several litterateurs and book lovers. Dr. Bharadwaja has won ‘Jnanpith Award’ for the novel in 2012.
Visalandhra Publishing House, which has published ‘Pakudu Rallu’, had given translation rights for a writer who is well versed in both Telugu and Italian languages, said the publishing house executive editor N. Madhukar.
Permission accorded
“Visalandhra Publishing House (VPH) had published more than 3,000 books, novels and journals in the last 60 years, and ‘Pakudu Rallu’ is one among the famous novels. Recently, a Delhi-based writer obtained permission for translating the novel into Italian language”, said Mr. Madhukar.
The project may take couple of years to complete. Similarly, the same writer obtained permission for translating some famous Italian novels into Telugu language, he said.
“VPH is making the coffee table books of Nelson Mandela and Comrade Chandra Rajeswara Rao with international standards, and the projects are under progress. The table books contains the life history of the great personalities, sacrifices, writings and their rare photographs”, said the executive editor who visited Guntur recently.
The publishing house, aimed at preserving Telugu literature, Bala Sahityam, Indian philosophy, Marxist, science and technology, religious, progressive literatures and poetry is planning to reprint several books and microfilm them for the future generations, said Mr. Madhukar.

3)AAP govt decisions to stay for now

The decisions taken during the Aam Aadmi Party’s 49 days rule in Delhi, including the 50 per cent subsidy on power tariffs and the 666 litres of free water daily for metered connections, will continue to be in effect till March 31, according to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.
Also, initiatives such as the 1031 anti-corruption helpline and the public grievance management system which was put in place will also continue functioning normally.
Mr. Jung, who is now administering Delhi after President’s Rule was imposed earlier this week, convened a meeting on Tuesday of all senior officers of the government including Chief Secretary S.K. Srivastava, all heads of departments along with commissioners of the three civic bodies and the New Delhi Municipal Council.
As for the public grievance system launched recently, Mr. Jung directed officers to make sure it continued to function at the Delhi Secretariat and that grievances were settled in a time-bound manner.



4)Resignations rock Congress

Congress suffered a jolt as two Union Ministers, six Ministers and eight MLAs tendered their resignation to their posts and the primary membership from the party protesting bifurcation of the State on Tuesday.

In one voice, the Seemandhra Congress leaders derided the manner in which the AP Reorganisation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha without taking into account the interests of the people of the region.

Union Ministers – M. M. Pallam Raju and D. Purandeswari put in their papers decrying bifurcation. Soon after the Bill was passed, State Ministers – Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Erasu Pratap Reddy, T. G. Venkatesh, S. Sailajanath, K. Parthasarathy, Galla Aruna and Kasu Venkatakrishna Reddy forwarded their resignation letters to the Governor. They were followed by nine MLAs, who too quit the party and membership of the Assembly.



5)Lok Sabha TV goes blank a minute into debate

Lok Sabha Television went blank one minute into the afternoon’s proceedings in the House on Tuesday, which was blamed on a technical glitch.Also, there was no recording of the proceedings, providing fodder to the BJP to raise the spectre of an Emergency-like blackout by the Congress. However, Chief Executive Officer of LSTV Rajiv Mishra toldThe Hindu that the uplinking station lost signal from inside the main complex at 3.01 p.m.



6)Telangana erupts in joy

Celebrations broke out across the Telangana region around 4 pm on Tuesday once the television channels started flashing news that Lok Sabha has passed the A.P. Reorganisation Bill with the voice vote.People from all walks of life, activists of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), members of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and students came out on to the streets in joy and celebrated the passage of Telangana Bill by dancing, slogan-shouting, bursting crackers and distributing sweets. The TRS cadre in districts started reaching the party offices in the afternoon as party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao instructed them on Monday night to be prepared for celebrations on Tuesday.Speaking in Delhi, TRS leader K.T. Rama Rao attributed the passage of the Bill to the 58-year resolve of Telangana people and it was time people rededicated themselves for the development of the new State. The security of Seemandhra people settled in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana had now become the responsibility of Telangana people, he stated.



7)Microsoft to set up centre of excellence

Microsoft IT-India will set up a centre of excellence in West Bengal and the company is in talks with the government, according to IT Minister Partha Chatterjee.“There is tremendous talent in West Bengal. We are setting up a centre of excellence in the State, the details of which are being worked out,” a company official said.At present, Microsoft has engineering centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore.



8)Sanjay Dutt’s parole extended for the third time

Actor and Mumbai blast convict Sanjay Dutt’s parole was extended by 30 days by the Maharashtra government on Tuesday.Mr. Dutt, who has been out on parole since December 21, was scheduled to return to Yerawada Central Prison on February 21.This is the third extension in his parole since he started his second stint at the jail in May 2013.



9)Queen meets ‘Queen’ at Buckingham Palace

Queen Elizabeth II hosted a galaxy of Hollywood stars, including former James Bond actor Roger Moore, at the Buckingham Palace where she also met Dame Helen Mirren who has played the British monarch on stage and screen.The Queen is a patron of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada). Current Rada students joined actors, including Dame Helen, for a performance in the Palace Ballroom. The actor performed a speech from Shakespeare’s The Tempest , the BBC reported. The guest list included Steve McQueen, Moore, Dame Angela Lansbury, Joan Collins, Michael Sheen, John Hurt, Alan Rickman, Tom Stoppard, Alan Bennett, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, and Lenny Henry among others.



10)Bhagat Singh’s village to become a heritage site

The Faisalabad government has proposed to develop Bangay, freedom fighter Bhagat Singh’s village, as a heritage site with a budget of Rs two crore as part of a plan to restore places of historical importance.Malik Mushtaq Tiwana, district officer, human resource management, told The Hindu over phone that Bangay would be developed with five other historical villages in the district. The overall cost of the project to be undertaken by the Lyallpur Heritage Foundation is Rs 12 crore.



11)Chidambaram leaves little elbow room for the next government

Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s budget estimates for 2014-15 show that his successor post-elections will have to allocate close to 80 per cent of the Centre’s net tax revenues to interest payments on the UPA Government’s borrowings, subsidies and pensions of government employees. In other words, the next government will have barely 20 per cent tax revenues for spending on governance and development.

Samsung sought to up the ante in its wider range of consumer products to compete with its rivals as the South Korean electronics giant launched feature-rich products across categories, including smart phones.At the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, Bali, Indonesia, B. D. Park, President and CEO, South West Asia, Samsung Electronics, said the company attempted to offer in the new line-up something that consumers never thought would be possible as it continued to ride on innovation and cutting edge technologies to reinvigorate consumer experience.The company introduced new products across smart phones, television, refrigerators, washing machines, split air-conditioners, cameras besides printing solutions at South West Asia Forum 2014.Among the key launches include two tablets — 12.2 inch screen Galaxy NotePro, which will be priced at Rs.64,900, and Galaxy Note 3 Neo at Rs.16,490.While NotePro promises to offer better multi-tasking features, Neo3, packed with lots of content, will target youngsters. It expanded its big screen smart phones portfolio by unveiling 5.5 inch Galaxy Note3 Neo.It comes with multiple colour options, and will be priced at Rs.40,900.All the three products are to hit the Indian market before March-end.To boost its presence in the ultra-high definition (UHD) market, the company rolled out UHD smart TVs, including three curved UHDs, which promise four times the resolution and pixels of full HD, apart from flat formats. The models will range from 48 inches to 110 inches.“The larger the curve, the more you are immersed. Curved shape enhances viewing experience significantly,” said Rajeev Bhutan, director, sales, Samsung India.The company expects UHDs to be the driver of growth in the coming years.Samsung also displayed food showcase refrigerator with two layers of doors and that is four times bigger than conventional home-bar refrigerator.It has three zones — cooking, family and kids. It is expected to hit the Indian market during the second quarter of this year.The new washing machine, WA4000HH, incorporating latest technologies, will hit India in the second quarter.A new split AC AR7000 with the all new triangle design and savings on energy will also hit the markets soon. Two new cameras, NX30 and Galaxy Camera 2, targeted at professional as well as personal segments, were also introduced.
